From the Maintenance Department...lawn pic.png

                                How is your grass?

With ample rain this summer most home lawns are looking green and healthy but a wet fall in 2016 and above average rain this year many lawns are having weed problems with clover, dandelion and the worst weed of all… crabgrass.

If you want your lawn to look better this fall and in spring I would suggest 3 things.

  1. Apply or have applied a 3-way herbicide in mid to late September to take care of the clover and dandelion this fall and you will have very little in spring.
  2. For the crabgrass (that thick bladed light green grass that came up in late June or early July) there is little to be done now as its life is almost over. Next year you will want to apply or have applied a preventative herbicide to “prevent” crabgrass from coming up.
  3. I still see lawns mowed to short. Home lawns perform best when mowed at 2.5 to 3 inches. At this height the grass is healthier and will reduce weed germination.

As a bonus if you really want to spruce up the lawn a good fertilizer application around Labor Day will strengthen the plant and roots before winter.

Happy mowing!

$30 for 30% Memberships @ Rolling Meadows Golf Course

Why you should buy a $30 for 30% Membership!

So what is the deal with the $30 for 30% Memberships?  Why do we promote them so much?  There must be a catch, right?  It can't be that simple, can it?

Everyone loves a great deal.  Even better is the unexpected great deal.  The $30 for 30% Membership is both of those!  Any occasional player should buy a membership, it is saving you money.  There is no catch and it's very simple.  Here's how it works:

  • Pay $30 for the membership
  • Your $30 gets you 18 Holes & a Cart, redeemable anytime M-F and after 12:00 on the weekends.
  • As a member, you now get 30% off on golf and cart on 16 pre-selected dates!! (Dates include weekends and weekdays)
  • Each $30-30% day, stop at the 28th Hole after your round for 2 for 1 on your first drink.
  • Example: Golf and Cart on Saturday, May 28th will be $50.  With the $30-30% Membership, you pay only $35!!

Top 5 Reasons to buy a $30-30% Membership

1. Play More Golf. You already love the game and you want to play more.  Let us help you play more and give you a reason to book tee times.

2. Save Money.  We all love a great deal.  This is one.  Just redeem the 18 holes and a cart and you have already more than made your money back!  Play a few more times and the deal gets better and better!

3. It's Healthy.  Studies have shown that golfers live longer.  Swinging the golf club and being active are key to good health.  Even if you take a cart you will walk 3-5 miles.  Walk the 18 and you will be closer to 7!  That beats the treadmill any day!

4. Your Outside.  Enjoy the beauty of nature and some good old fashioned fresh air!  You spend enough time in front of screen at work, so  enjoy your down time outside!!

5. It's Fun!  Golf is game, and it can be very enjoyable.  Whether you are scratch golfer or you shoot over 100, get out and play.  Those handful of good or great shots will keep you coming back.

10 Reasons You Should Get Your Kids into Golf

You love the game.  Why shouldn't your kids?  Golf will get your kids outside, test their hand eye coordination, teach them patience and much, much more!  We have the perfect program for your son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter, no matter their age or skill!

Find the best program for your junior golfer here:

Junior Golf Player Development Programs

Every winter we reevaluate our program to make sure that things can't be done even better.  As part of that process, we have improved our program to offer more opportunities for junior players of all ability and experience levels.  Additionally, we are excited to announce that we have added a second PGA Professional to our teaching staff, Mr. Don DuChateau.  Don brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff.  Finally, for our younger and less experienced juniors, we have purchased SNAG Golf equipment.  This will be a major upgrade and I am confident the kids are going to love it!  If you haven't heard of SNAG Golf, check out there website on the link.

Here is a short description of each program we offer:

Free Clinic

Monday, June 15, 2015; 9:00-12:00

This is an opportunity for Junior Golfers to be introduced to the game of golf.  It is open to any Junior age 5-18.  Participants will learn that golf is FUN and have the opportunity to learn about and try some of the basic fundamentals.  There is no cost for this clinic, but registration is required.  Please follow the link above to register.

10:00 Skill Building

11:00 On Course Practice (3 Holes)

The "Mini-Tour" Junior Golf Program is the entry level program to the game of golf.  Once a Junior has been to our free clinic and has the interest to continue, the Mini Tour is the first stop.  This program will focus on the development of the skills needed to play golf.  Those skills will presented in games and engaging activities.  Each week participants will work on a different skill utilizing different parts of our facility.  After the skill building portion is complete, Juniors will play 3 holes of golf.

We will also work on the skills required for the nation Drive, Chip & Putt Competition.  For more information on the Drive, Chip and Putt, please see below.

Parents or Grandparents will be asked to volunteer to walk with a group at least once during the summer.

Included with the program is the season ending "Junior Championship" and Pizza Party on August 6th.  The cost of the program includes: 7 group lessons, 7 rounds of golf (with the program), 3 certificates for 9 holes with mom or dad, a Junior Golf "tee prize", and the season ending tournament and pizza party.

The "Web.com Tour" Junior Golf Program is the next step after our "Mini-Tour" Program.  This program will build on the fundamentals and skills learned in the Mini-Tour.  Participants must have participated in our Junior Golf Program in the past or pass a "skills test."  This program will continue to develop the fundamental skills of the Junior but will also begin to introduce some more advanced fundamentals.  Any golfer between the ages of 5 and 18 that meet the criteria are eligible.  As with the Mini-Tour, after the skill building portion of the day, players will put their new skills to practice on the golf course, playing 5 to 9 holes.

Web.com participants will also work on the skills for the Drive, Chip and Putt Contest.

10 Great Reasons to Play Golf @ Rolling Meadows Golf Course

10 reasons to play golf pic.jpg

Ten Reasons You Should Be Playing Golf!

By Andrew Wood

  1. Golfers Live Longer: Really they do; 5 years on average according to a Swedish study, so that’s a no brainer!

  2. Golf Keeps Your Weight Down: A round of golf walking burns 1500 calories and keeps your weight down. So no matter how badly you play you win!

  3. Golf Reduces Stress, (or so they say) and increases your mental capacity, creativity and problem solving ability, all of which are positives!

  4. Anyone Can Play: The appeal of golf can span the age range of all members of a family. A young golfer may enjoy the challenge of making contact with the ball for the first time, learning a new sport or the delight of spending the day with an adult relative. For an adult, golf may be a great opportunity to isolate his family from distractions and focus on spending time together in the context of a fun game.golf freinds pic.jpg

  5. Golf Creates Lasting Friendships: Golf is the perfect venue to make new friendships and strengthen old ones. My three best friends from starting out as junior golfers in 1976 remain so today although I live 4,00O miles away. If you go to the course alone and join with other players, by the end of the round you may find yourself having a beer with new friends while reliving that birdie on the 13th one more time.

  6. Golf is Great for Business:All things being equal, people will do business with a friend; all things being unequal, people will still do business with a friend." Mark McCormack. If you are in business or just need to make contacts, the golf course is the perfect place. There is plenty of time between shots or while waiting for the group in front of you to talk about your product or service.

  7. You Can Enjoy Nature. Your playing partners in a round of golf are not just people. They are deer, turtles, foxes, woodchucks, rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, elk, beavers, trout, bass, hawks, blue heron, eagles, geese, ducks, robins, blue jays, toads, armadillos, turkeys, otters, gophers, lizards, butterflies, dogs, bobcats, coyotes, panthers and alligators and that’s just some of the wildlife I have enjoyed over the years on the course. In Africa I have also played among zebra, giraffes, and a host of other animals I couldn’t even name.

  8. Golf Gives You A Reason to Travel: There are so many amazing courses around the world, from the links of Scotland to the blue waters of the Caribbean, and golf is a great reason to visit different countries to see them all. Ah…so many courses so little time.

  9. Lifetime Challenge: Golf is a game of a lifetime and the challenges it offers change daily with the course conditions, wind and weather.

  10. Great Recreational Value: Golf is really a great value when compared to many other activities.

With all the positive benefits golf has, there is no time to lose, it’s time to get started or re-connect with the game.

Next Steps

    • If you haven’t played or have not played in a while start with some lessons with a local pro. (Jeremiah Hoffmann, PGA - 920-924-2425 - JWPH Golf Academy)
