Our annual Board of Director’s Meeting will be held in December, if you have any comments and/or suggestions for our tournaments or the RMGA in 2008, please email them to me! We have attempted over the past 8 years to find something for everyone to participate in.

With that said, we believe the RMGA is in great shape. With my increased role as a Director for the Wisconsin State Golf Association, I will be finishing up my term with the annual board meeting. We have two new director’s positions that are open and we have asked a couple of younger women to serve on the board. Although, we don’t have definitive answers from either of them, we are hoping that they will give a little back and help out! We feel it is important to try to grow the participation of younger women and men for that matter in the RMGA. Anyone that would be interested in being on the board of director’s please contact me by November 15tth.

Golf is a game of giving back as well as what we receive from participating and ultimately, it is the friendships that we carry for a lifetime!

I suppose it wouldn’t be a newsletter if I didn’t mention the posting of your scores but it still remains a problem area. It is your responsibility to post all of your scores! Thank you for taking care of your responsibility to the game of golf and the USGA Handicap System. Remember to patronize our Newsletter Sponsors! Until next issue, Fairways & Greens & great fall weather would be nice!

Super Notes

Thanks again for your business this year. We appreciate you spending your golf dollars at Rolling Meadows. As the season winds down we hope to see you enjoying the great conditions and few warm days we have left.

Rolling Meadows is offering one free 9 or 18 hole round of golf to Veterans in November so help us spread the word to those who have served our country.

Conditions were dry enough recently for us to get two fall projects started. We had a arborist come in with a bucket truck to trim the trees on the left side of hole 14. Over the 10 years the course has been open, the trees had grown over the fairway quite a bit. I expect everyone to get pars and birdies on that hole now. The golf course staff plans to trim “up” the oaks on hole 7 and 9 yet this fall as the branches have grown lower over time.

We were able to split the picnic shelter at the nursing home in two and take the halves out on the golf course for rain shelters. One is left of the hole 21 at the dogleg before the green and one is between 7 and 12 greens. Although the shelters will have lightning rods and grounding keep in mind the shelters are for rain storms not lightning storms. The safest place on the golf course during a lightning storm is in the clubhouse.

We have started a new black tee on hole number 4 with some free material we received from a neighbor. It looks a little imposing right now but when are done with it it will fit into the landscape. Our goal is to redo the entire hole 4 blue/white/silver tee complex if the November weather allows us to. Over the next couple years we plan to redo the few original tees we have left on holes 5, 10, 19, 24 and 25. Due to settling we have plenty of tees to level so we will keep plugging away at them.

You’re invited to call or e-mail if you have any questions or comments or to quell any the many rumors and stories that find their way around the golf community. 929-3735 or davidb@rollingmeadowsgolfcourse.com.

Tips from the Pro
By Jeremiah Hoffmann, PGA Professional

A question that I am often asked is concerning the golf club at the top of the swing. “Is it square? Is it shut or closed? Or is it open?” This question certainly is valid, but what is correct and how do we accomplish it? Simply stated, leave it alone. Swing the club over your right shoulder. This will make the club square at the top. The club gets out of square when we make manipulations to try and accomplish some “position.” Picture swinging a bucket of water in a circle to understand what it means to ‘just swing the club over your right shoulder.” If you truly swing the bucket, the water stays in the bucket. If you try and place the bucket in a position or force the movement, the water falls out every time! A great self check for what square is, from the address position, pick the club straight up and place it on your right shoulder. From there, turn your left shoulder under your chin, and then lift your hands up. That is square!
